Who is Eligible?
ELIGIBILITY
STUDENTS
Students, who are enrolled in and attending a Participating Institution of Learning in Manitoba and their eligible dependents, who:
- are not Canadian landed immigrants, and
- are not eligible for any provincial government health insurance plan.
Eligible dependents include:

YOUR SPOUSE
Your spouse is the person to whom you are legally married and resides with you.
Or
Your common-law spouse with whom you have been living in a conjugal relationship when you first enroll in MISHIP.
If you add a common-law spouse after you are first eligible under MISHIP, there is a one-year waiting period from the date you notify Aon Consulting in writing of your common-law spouse to the date he/she is eligible for coverage.
The one-year waiting period for a common-law spouse will be waived if you declare your common-law spouse when you first enroll in MISHIP. This includes a common-law spouse from your home country who will arrive in Canada at a later date to reside with you.

YOUR CHILD
Your child(ren) which may include your step-child(ren), adopted child(ren) or foster child(ren), who
- is unmarried,
- is under age 21,
- is financially dependent on you for support and maintenance , and
- resides with you
IMPORTANT!
You must enroll no later than the date you commence your studies
If you have eligible dependents on the date you are first eligible, you must apply for family coverage within 31 days. As well, if you acquire an eligible dependent after you are enrolled in MISHIP, you have 31 days to enroll for family coverage. If you don't, you will not be eligible for family coverage later. |
