Adding Coverage For Eligible Dependents
COVERAGE MANAGEMENT
STUDENTS
Have you gotten married?
Have you had a baby?
Note: If your child was born in Manitoba, this child may be eligible for Manitoba Health at birth, depending on the length of time remaining on your Student Visa. Please contact the Client Service Centre of Manitoba Health for more information.
Has your Spouse arrived from your home country to live with you here in Manitoba?
If your eligible dependents, Spouse or Child(ren), now live with you, or if you have gotten married and your Spouse now lives with you, you must apply for Family coverage under the Plan within 31 days of this change in order to convert from Single coverage to Family.
- Contact your school's administration office for a Manitoba International Students Health Insurance Application form and the cost of changing to family coverage.
- You must complete a Manitoba International Students Health Insurance Application form.
- When completing your application form, be sure to:
- If you are adding a common law Spouse, who you did not declare when you initially applied for insurance and now lives with you, there will be a one-year waiting period from the date of notification, before your common law spouse is eligible for coverage.
- Your school can advise you who to make your cheque payable to. Some schools require that cheques or money orders be made payable to the school. You should confirm this with your school. If payment is being made to “Great-West Life Assurance Company”, you should note that Great-West Life does not accept cash or credit card payments.
- Return your completed application form and payment to your school
- You have up to 31 days, from the date of the change, to apply for family coverage. Late applications will not be accepted.
Once your application has been processed a new MISHIP Identification Card will be sent to your school.
NOTE: At the time you initially enrolled in the Plan, if you had eligible dependents, you should have applied for family coverage. If you failed to do so, you may not apply for family coverage at a later time.
