Terminating Coverage

COVERAGE MANAGEMENT
STUDENTS

REFUNDS

You may be entitled to a partial refund if your coverage terminates due to:

• Withdrawing from your course of studies,
• Returning to your home country,
• Obtaining Canadian landed immigrant status, or
• Becoming covered by a provincial government health insurance plan

and you have 4 or more months of unused MISHIP coverage remaining.

HOW TO TERMINATE YOUR COVERAGE

If you are a student at the University of Manitoba, your refund request must be approved by your school. Contact the Registrar's Office.

For all other students, to terminate your coverage please provide written notification to:

• A partial refund will be considered only with written notice
• Refunds will not be provided retroactively and will be determined based on the date that your written notice is received by Aon Hewitt if you are terminating because you have obtained provincial health coverage. If you are leaving the country and are applying for a refund before you depart, your refund will be based on the date of your departure.
• Refunds for less than 4 months of unused MISHIP coverage will not be processed
• In your written notice, be sure to include the following:
  • reason for terminating your insurance
  • copy of your departure travel itinerary, if termination is due to departure from Canada
  • proof of withdrawal from course of study, if termination is due to withdrawal from school
  • your original MISHIP Identification Card
  • a copy of your provincial health insurance card, if termination is due to obtaining provincial health insurance coverage
  • the mailing address where your refund is to be sent
• Once your request has been processed, your refund (if applicable) will be mailed to you.
